From the inspiration file.

So, I've seen a lot of great stuff hanging in museums in Kansas City and Chicago over the years, including some wonderful portraits of women. These are the works that never fail to instruct and inspire:

I feel like there should have been a photo-department event...a funeral...on site... one giant photo-class field-trip from schools everywhere.

Sophomores... where you at?

I think we need to get the photo sophomores interested in the blog. I'd love to see what they'd post as well as give them ideas/artists/possible directions they could go. Just something I was thinking about as I read through what Chelsea has posted for all of us as well as things that may interest us personally and how helpful she was, and still is.

Interesting interview with a married couple who packed up their belongings and hit the road trucker style, and also took a 4x5 camera with them and took photos for a year.

Paul Kenny

I 'stole' the below text (if anything can be stolen on the internet) from 500 photographers. Paul Kenny's work is highly interesting to me on varying levels, including but not excluded to the similarities of what I was doing (and how he did it better) when I was working with dyeing and abusing sheets of film:

Paul Kenny, Great-Britain, 1951, makes photographs that are bright in color and mysterious. One has to look twice before noticing what the viewer is looking at. Kenny gathers materials from the beach and takes them to his studio. He arranges the "insignificant things" like dried seawater, plastic fragments, seaweed and beer can bottoms to get his final result. The following images come from the series Mull Works,Seaworks 3 and Seaworks 1.
