Hey guys, I'm wanting to get some feed back on a possible new series. Let me know what you think!

Stone on Stone

This is a clip out of Rob Carter's Stone on Stone video piece. I thought it was interesting in how it talks about the connections between different periods in architecture, in particular high gothic to modernism. The sound is really great on it as well, so make sure you have the volume up when you watch it - definitely reminds me of a few of Monty Python's cartoon sketches. Steve you should definitely watch this!

EDIT: It would help if I actually added the clip, durrrr

Sommers

"i could take a cow and implant a camera in it and let it amble around in the city or in its own domain. If the camera was programmed to go off at an indeterminate series of moments, the samplings would be fantastic. We're not so damned inspired every day! If we rely on what we meet, some inspiration will arise. As an example, if i go into a grocery store... if i am smart I will take home what is best that day. i will not say that i want to buy apples today or that i want to buy oranges today... i buy the best of what there is that day. if the beef looks good, i'm not going to buy lamb... The point of this is: if you work this way, if you live this way, if you just exist this way, you will find that by some strange coincidence, you will have brought together a number of things which make a magnificent meal. you consume this thing with champagne if you can afford it, and if not, you consume it just with enthusiasm." - Frederick Sommer, from "an extemporaneous talk at the art institute of chicago"
Thought this might be an interesting contest to enter for those of us working in everyday documentation like Helio. The deadline is April 30th, and you have to mail in prints, so if you're interesting you need to hurry!

Vee Speers

After taking a tour of a local art collectors loft in the river market I discovered Vee Speers, an Australian born photographer. Her work is gorgeous, and I feel captures a sense of innocent maturity (if that makes sense), and rather than ignore Jan Kennedy (again) and writing a lengthy blog, I'll just post the images and let them speak for themselves:

these are by an artist named Elaine Duigenan. she also has some interesting work that was taken into  space and documented on the space shuttle windows. which is sort of really beautiful. also.....sometimes she uses scanners..and a girl can appreciate that!

Edit- and she has a great process blog for her current project dealing with surgical tools.

World Water Day

So originally i saw this image and thought of Dusty's work from last year, but looking throughout this article written about "World Water Day" i found that there are some pretty sexy land survey-esque images that i think Don would enjoy.

And for everyone else i think the content of these images are really powerful, it makes me eternally grateful for having good ol' KC tap water.

THE SITE

various groupings of colored things from her house.

Lydia-

I saw this woman's work day that reminded me of the images you showed in class. the "various off white surfaces around my bed" pictures. This woman Helga Steppan collects same color objects from around her house and photographs them all together, she also shows these groupings as instillation.

alexa meade.

so this chick is pretty crazy. instead of creating an illusion of photo-realism, she's flattening objects inside of her photographs to look like paintings. these are all real people and objects as installations painted to look like paintings.

Jeff Brouws

I feel like everyone has something to gain from this artist. Don deals with space the same way, he does series documentation and architecture studies that Katy would like, the civil defense series of the nuclear drop site would interest several people, Brandon and the roadtrip or road side type series. Just all around worth looking at. Check it out.
